Whether you’re new to Acupuncture, Chinese medicine, or this is simply your first visit with Dr. Cureton, here's what you should know before your appointment.
Once you make an appointment, Alder Family Medicine reception will send new patient forms to you.
Please complete the new patient forms before your first appointment. If you are not able to get them finished ahead of time, please plan to arrive 30 minutes early. The forms may seem lengthy, but this allows us to use as much information to treat you holistically and still focus on your current concerns at your initial appointment.
Additionally, for naturopathic appointments, please bring copies of any labs you have had done in the last 3 years.
Your first appointment with Dr. Cureton will be between 60 and 90 minutes long, during which we will chat about you, your history and your health goals. We'll complete a physical exam and recommend relevant lab work, then, discuss options for where we head next. I will use my knowledge and expertise to give you the tools to implement changes in your life, and not only identify what is out of balance, but also walk you down the path to wellness.
You will most likely have several follow up visits of 30-60 minutes. The number of return visits will be determined by the severity of your health condition and your response to treatment. Although patients often feel better quickly, naturopathic care is about treating both symptoms and causes of illness. While our goal is to identify and treat patients swiftly and effectively, naturopathic medicine is not a “quick fix, take a pill” approach to health care.
If you are coming in for both Naturopathy and Acupuncture, it's unlikely that your first visit will include an acupuncture treatment. In order to address each patient’s needs comprehensively, the full 60-90 minutes is needed to gather information and formulate a plan.
Please see the Services page for more information about specific Naturopathic treatments.
New patient acupuncture appointments are an hour, with about 30 minutes of intake and 30 minutes of treatment. Follow-up appointments will include 5-15 minutes of discussion and 45 minutes of treatment.
Acupuncture treatment plans vary, but results are very effective. You may experience immediate results, but this treatment is cumulative, meaning the more follow-up appointments the better you will feel. While this does vary from patient to patient, you can usually expect anywhere from 8-10 treatments to start.
